For Sale: 1995 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado KZJ78W

This 3.0L Diesel Toyota Land Cruiser Prado has only 256,000 kms or 159,000 miles. It is automatic and originally finished in Toyota 26Z Emerald Green Pearl. The truck was repainted black professionally and was a very high quality repaint based on our inspections. It almost seems like a factory repaint if such a thing exists. The engine bay is also black, unless engine bays are painted differently on these trucks and not original body color. The door jambs and all other areas are black as if it were originally painted black.

This beautiful black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado was born in March of 1995. The blue, gray, and purple cloth interior is in excellent condition. It is equipped with OEM Toyota rain visors, window tint, and an aftermarket navigation system. You can link your phone via bluetooth and listen to music normally with it as you would a US system. The interior doesn’t have any smoke or strange smells. It almost smells like you are stepping back in time to 1995 as it has that classic cloth interior Toyota scent. The grade of this truck is an SX Wide Type and it is a Wagon.

The timing belt was changed around 94,000 kms as it does have a timing belt change sticker on the firewall. There is a second timing belt change sticker on the timing belt cover which we can assume was done around the 200,000 kms mark. A third timing belt change will be due at or around 300,000 kms. We physically inspected the belt and it is in good condition front and back without any cracks. It looks relatively new which would confirm a belt change was done around 200,000kms. The gauge cluster also has a timing belt light, which illuminates when it’s time to change the belt. This light turns on every 100,000kms and can be reset when the timing belt is changed.

The truck was stored for quite some time. The last oil change was on August 8th, 2018 at 248,216kms and only drive 7,000 kms in 6 years. The truck now has 255,900kms

The J78 is equipped with the rugged 3.0L 4-cylinder turbo diesel 1KZTE motor. This motor is known to last 300,000miles (480000kms) or more with good care and maintenance. The 1KZ-TE replaced the 2L-TE motor in 1993 in an effort to reduce soot and NOx. This motor was also found in the Hiace, Hilux and Granvia. The KZ motor has a compression of 21.2:1 and maximum output is 123hp and 218lb/ft of torque at 2000 RPM. The max engine RPM is 4400. This engine is perfect for around town duties or low end offroad torque.

This motor is matched to the equally as reliable and tough A343F 4-speed automatic transmission. This transmission was also found on the US Spec 80 and 100 Series Land Cruisers and LX450’s and LX470’s from 1995-2002. The Prado can be expected to get between 20-25mpg with the efficient diesel. The Prado has electronic push button selectable four wheel drive. A hub lock and 4HI switch on the dashboard allow the front hubs to electronically engage. This is more convenient than traditionally manual hubs where you have to exit the vehicle and turn a knob on both from hubs to engage 4WD. A343 parts are readily available in the US and many engine maintenance parts are also easily available. The engine oil filter and fuel filters are both readily available at your local Toyota dealer. The oil filter has part number 90915-30002 and the fuel filter has part number 23303-64010. It uses about 7.7L or 8 quarts of 10W-40 API CF or similar. Rotella T4 15W40 in warm climates or 5W40 in colder climates at freezing or below. The transmission uses 15L or 16 quarts of standard inexpensive ATF Dexron 2, or Valvoline Maxlife.

The Prado trim of the Land Cruiser is slightly less rugged than the big brother Land Cruiser 80 series with the 4.2L diesel motor. This makes the Prado ideal for daily driving in the city. The engine and suspension is a bit lighter and it’s a much smaller version of the larger HDJ80 Land Cruiser. The Prado is normally RWD like a Toyota pickup truck unless you select the 4WD. The 80-series Land Cruiser is full time 4WD. Both models have solid front and rear axles for the ultimate off-road capability.

Timing belt looks good and should be good for another 50,000 – 75,000 KMS or until the timing belt light turns on inside the gauge cluster.
