This 1997 Daihatsu Mira TR-XX Avanzato R SOLD on CARSANDBIDS on 6/18/2026. This car has 121,110 KMS or 75,254 miles. Chassis: L502S-064758.
We imported and titled the Mira in Wisconsin and it is stored in San Diego, CA. Wisconsin titled kei-cars cannot be operated legally on Wisconsin roads per statute 341.10(6). They can be operated off-road and on private land. The rules and laws will differ by state and the Wisconsin title can be transferred to any other state. We have sold multiple kei cars to buyers in other states and they have had no issues.
Kei cars and trucks have been “banned” in Wisconsin since 2013 for on-road use. Wisconsin Quietly Banned Japanese Tiny Car Imports 13 Years Ago But Forgot To Enforce It Until Now. There needs to be a movement to legalize them again because they are no more dangerous than motorcycles or other small on-road vehicles.
The TR-XX Avanzato R represents the highest-performance version of the L500-series Daihatsu Mira, developed during Japan’s peak kei car performance era of the 1990s. Lightweight, turbocharged, and engineered with a focus on responsive handling, these cars became well known for delivering genuine enthusiast driving characteristics in an extremely compact platform.
Powered by a turbocharged DOHC inline-three engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, the Avanzato R combines low vehicle weight with quick boost response and agile front-wheel-drive dynamics. Factory performance-oriented variants like this have become increasingly difficult to source in clean, unmodified condition.
This Mira TR-XX has had careful ownership and maintenance based on the clean body, paint, underbody, and overall condition of the drivetrain. It remains relatively rust-free and shows only minor cosmetic signs of use. There is some minor corrosion under the body as seen in the photos.
We confirmed the body-structure, underside and engine bay meet our high standards prior to listing. There is no undercoating and very limited surface corrosion.
On the road the Mira TR-XX delivers an engaging drive with the lightweight ~700 kg chassis and front engine front wheel drive layout. Whether you’re entering the U.S. 25-year import market or adding a rare kei-roadster to your collection, this model delivers pure fun and excellent value among JDM imports.

Unlike many larger JDM performance cars, the appeal of the Mira TR-XX Avanzato R comes from simplicity, low weight, and driver engagement rather than outright horsepower. The compact dimensions, turbocharged engine, and responsive chassis create a driving experience that feels mechanical and direct in a way most modern vehicles no longer offer.

Not all kei cars were economy-focused commuter vehicles. The Mira TR-XX Avanzato R was developed as a lightweight turbocharged performance platform, offering a completely different driving experience from standard kei models of the era.
This example stands out due to its enthusiast-oriented configuration, lightweight chassis, and increasingly rare factory turbo drivetrain. Combined with its Delta Red finish and analog driving feel, it represents a unique segment of 1990s Japanese performance culture that has become harder to find in original form.
