Vehicle Import & Customs Clearance + U.S. Title Registration (25-Year Rule)

Skip the paperwork and delays—Tanin JDM handles Importer of Record (IOR), customs entry, EPA/NHTSA compliance, and an optional Wisconsin title so your eligible JDM/classic import is ready to register.

Service Fee: $599.00 (duties & port fees billed separately)

Eligibility (Important)

  • Vehicle must be 25 years old or older to qualify under classic import exemptions.
  • All origins accepted. You (or your exporter) arrange ocean shipping into a U.S. port, then stateside truck transport or personal pickup.

What’s Included

  • Importer of Record (IOR): Tanin JDM acts as the legal IOR and coordinates with a trusted customs broker.
  • Customs paperwork & entry: ISF filing (for ocean), entry package preparation, and liaison with customs.
  • Regulatory compliance: Required EPA and NHTSA documentation for eligible vehicles.
  • Customs clearance: End-to-end oversight to reduce delays, holds, or errors.
  • U.S. Title option (WI): If you only have foreign/import documentation, we can obtain a Wisconsin title to help streamline your home-state registration. If the vehicle is imported and cleared already the listing price will cover the title. The title processing is not included along with the import and customs clearance. Current WI title fee is $207 on 10/1/2025
  • Missing title or no export certificate. We can obtain a bonded title for you, the same criteria applies as the last point.

Typical duty guide (MFN): ~2.5% for passenger cars (HTS 8703) and ~25% for pickups/cargo-bed trucks and other vehicles “for the transport of goods” (HTS 8704). We have also heard 12.5% on cars and 35% on cargo vehicles.

Vehicles manufactured 25+ years prior to entry are currently subject to 0% additional Section 232 auto duty (HTSUS 9903.94.04). Totals vary by classification; official duty and port fees are calculated at declaration.

What’s Not Included / Your Responsibilities

  • Ocean shipping into the U.S. and domestic truck transport or pickup from port.
  • Customs duties, port/handling fees, taxes, storage, or inspection fees.
  • Non-eligible vehicles or special imports that require additional compliance (contact us first).

How It Works

  1. Book the service (add to cart) and provide basic vehicle + shipment details.
  2. Ocean arrival: You or your exporter manage the overseas shipment into a U.S. port.
  3. ISF & entry: We submit ISF (for ocean) and prepare your customs entry with our broker as IOR.
  4. Compliance docs: We handle EPA/NHTSA paperwork for eligible vehicles.
  5. Duties/fees: You receive the official total before release; settle promptly to avoid storage.
  6. Clearance & pickup: After release, arrange stateside truck transport or pick up in person.
  7. Title option: If needed, we obtain a Wisconsin title to simplify out-of-state registration.

How long does clearance take?
Timelines vary by port, carrier, and inspection volume. After complete documents and arrival, clearance commonly takes a few business days, barring holds or storage issues.
What paperwork do I need to provide?
Typically: bill of lading/booking, purchase docs, ID/contact details, vehicle info (VIN/chassis), and exporter contact. We’ll confirm the list after you book.
How much are duties and fees?
Guidance (MFN): ~2.5% for passenger cars; ~25% for pickups/cargo-bed trucks. For vehicles manufactured 25+ years prior to entry, the current additional Section 232 auto duty is 0% (HTSUS 9903.94.04). Port/handling and any storage are additional; totals are calculated at declaration.
Can you get me a U.S. title if I already imported the car?
Yes—if you only have foreign/import docs, we can obtain a Wisconsin title to simplify registration in your home state.
Do you handle shipping?
